MagBoard manufactures green building products that allow builders to meet new mandatory fire and energy codes with structural products that are fire, rot, mold, and termite resistant that double the energy efficiency of buildings, at 50% of the cost, in 50% of the construction time compared to the way it is done today.


The history of MagBoard™ dates back almost 20 years out of an ongoing search to find an improved sheathing material for structural insulated panel systems (SIPS).  It was clear that OSB or plywood easily succumbed to fire, rot and mold.  Cement products were brittle, non-structural, unhealthy and hard to work with.  Exotic materials like fiberglass or other composites were not cost effective, or were too radical for subcontractors to easily adopt. 

In 2003, the Company became aware of MgO boards from a trade mission to China sponsored by the Canadian Government.  In the next two years, the Company visited and tested MgO boards from 35 manufacturers.  There were huge differences in performance. Fire and water resistance varied greatly and products were brittle and often broke during handling and installation. 

MagBoard brought the best of western materials technology to MgO cement production and developed proprietary formulations, production processes and equipment to produce the only MgO structural sheathing in the market with significantly improved fire and water resistance properties.  MagBoard™ is designed to be less brittle with less waste due to “blow out” from fasteners or handling. To verify results, MagBoard performed substantial properties and assembly testing with Intertek, one of the world’s leading independent testing laboratories. With evaluation reports covering over 51 ASTM and related protocols,MagBoard™ is the most tested MgO product in the market today.

The Company has gone on to design and install its own manufacturing facility with a full plant quality control program monitored by Intertek.  MagBoard is a manufacturer and not a broker.  So, customers can have confidence that they are buying the best, most tested MgO products in the market and not just the deal of the day.  No other MgO producer has this resume.
